The king’s Menagerie

An exclusive and unique collaboration with Grand Palais

We were commissioned by the Palace of Versailles to design Louis XIV’s Menagerie of Versailles. On sale in the palace shop from October 2018.

The King’s Menagerie was built from 1662 onwards by Louis XIV on the basis of plans by Louis Le Vaux. This place to walk contained a rich collection of rare and exotic animals such as pink flamingos, elephants, lions and even a rhinoceros under Louis XV. In addition to causing visitors to wonder, the Royal Menagerie made a strong contribution to the development of animal science: zoology. These models invite young and old to rediscover this place of marvels today no longer with us.
